Fossil Scallops
Chiamybalonesis sp
Miocene
Lacoste, France
An impressive natural assemblage of large shells exhibiting strong lines and dramatic relief stands upright, forming a captivating presentation of an ancient shoreline sediment.
Measures: 19" x 28 ".
SRP: $1,600
Extraordinary Sea Floor Slab
Asaphus
Ordovician
Naarke, Sweden
By both the nature of their lifestyle and the rock in which they became embedded, trilobites are usually
collected one at a time. Very rarely does an entire ancient sea floor block break clean to reveal such a
treasure trove of fossiliferous matrix as is seen in the present sea floor slab. Featured are a variety of
Asaphid trilobites, all presented exactly as they were buried in a Paleozoic undersea disaster over 450
million years ago. The only known comparable Swedish mass mortality plate is featured in a Stockholm museum.
Measures: 35" x 24" x 4".
SRP: $3,600
Gastropod
Campanile giganteum
Eocene
Champagne, France
A smaller version of the spectacular giant gastropod of the previous lot.
Measures: 15" x 11" x 7 ½".
SRP: $2,250
Miocene Crab
Gancer
Miocene
Paglia, Italy
A large Miocene crab prepared in three dimensions mounted on matrix.
Measures: 7 ½" x 8". Presentation Measures 11" x 10" x 6".
SRP: $3,350
Crab on Matrix
Harpactocarcinus
Eocene
Monte Baldo, Italy
Beautifully articulated in a lifelike pose, with partial legs, intricate shell texture is seen in
a well-preserved fossil crab.
Matrix Measures: 5" x 4 ½" x 3 ¼".
SRP: $1,500
Three Pectin Shells with Barnacles
Miocene
Three pectin shells with fossil barnacles adhering to their surfaces serve as an aesthetically appealing decorative collection.
Measures: 8", 7 ½"and 5", respectively.
SRP: $800
Pygmy Woolly Mammoth
Mammuthus sp.
Pleistocene
Khatanga region, Eastern Siberia, Russia
Recovered by Russian geologists in 1999, carbon dating results estimate the present pygmy woolly mammoth specimen at
18,000 years old. The mammoth, a female, belongs to a pygmy population that is known to have inhabited Eastern
Siberia 20,000 – 17,000 years ago. Evidence is strong that pygmy mammoths are direct predecessors of the well-known
larger mammoths, Mammuthus primigenius, that lived in Eastern Siberia much later, from 10,000 – 7,000 years ago. A
preliminary study has estimated the age of the present individual at 40 years. The excellently preserved skeleton is
virtually 95 percent complete. Though the skeleton was recovered from permafrost, no remains of soft tissue are
preserved, indicating that the animal’s carcass was exposed to the elements, causing decomposition, before it was
permanently buried in the frozen soil.
Height of skeleton is 7 feet, 3 inches. Length of skeleton, from tip of tusk to tail, is 12 feet 4 inches

reverse side.
Length: 19"
The other is an artfully carved walrus tusk, embellished with a nautical theme including a sailing ship with a seagull flying above, and is presented on a unique base made of a fossil whale vertebra.
Length of tusk 22", base 19" x 14" x 5", over all Height 27".

Fossil Walrus Ivory Tuske
An intricately carved walrus tusk depicts vivid demonic characters, with a Chinese dragon and pagoda on the
reverse side.
Alaska
Possibly a fairly recent find as it lacks the brown mineralization staining frequently seen in tusks of greater
age. With a smooth polished face to the top and a small, inset ivory peg to the reverse to provide elevation and
allow viewing from above.
Length 26". Weighing approximately 4 lbs (1.8 kg).
SRP: $2,000
Calcite in Fossilized Clam Shell
Mercenaria Permagna
Florida
A small find of these clam shells was discovered in 2002 during an excavation for a civil engineering project.
A fascinating specimen formed when “gemmy” calcite crystals grew in the natural pockets created by buried fossil
clamshells. The interior of the shells now contain fine golden crystals of calcite. Not many fine mineral
specimens come from Florida, of course!
Height: 4"
